The Islands have a magical feel to them, so what better way to see and visit than by small plane. Our flight to Bute is such a fantastic experience that it has tempted several people to sign up right away for a full course of lessons! Overall, you’ll spend about two hours in the air, and you should allow about three hours for the whole trip.
What they’ll see…
As for the views, there can be few sights more spectacular than the Clyde coast and the islands from the air. En route to Bute you will fly over Cumbrae and Millport before landing at the airfield by Kilchattan Bay. At the end of the runway on Bute there is a perfect outline of the “sleeping giant” of Arran. Once we land at Bute we will have a cup of tea or coffee and a snack before setting off for home again. If the weather permits, we may return via Helensburgh, Loch Lomond and Cumbernauld.
The Aircraft: C42 Ikarus
The Ikarus is the sports car of the skies. It can take off in less than 100m, climb at 1000ft a minute and cruise at 100mph. It even has a higher power to weight ratio than a Porsche!

By car, around 45 minutes from Glasgow and Ayr and an hour from Stirling and Edinburgh
